This is Why You Are Considering Paying for Spotify

Friday, 6th May at 08:10am

Restrictions on free Spotify accounts are getting tighter, but before we shout about how rubbish this is, it’s worth knowing to what extent artists are already getting ripped off… Artists make just $0.00029 per play, which essentially makes it similar in value to piracy for anyone getting less than hundreds of thousands of plays per month. Is Spotify devaluing music? Compare what an up-and-coming artist needs to do to make minimum wage in this infographic:

36 — Hypersona

Monday, 20th September at 06:36pm

Nice ambient album. You can download it on a ‘pay what you think it’s worth’ basis (even if you think it’s worth £0). It’s good to see artists that want to make money doing what they do, but understand that people want to get the content by a method and price of their choosing. Check the embed below for some free listening, click ‘buy’ and give him some money if you like it:

Goldmund — Famous Places

Monday, 13th September at 05:28pm

Incredible new album from Keith Kenniff (also known as Helios) under his Goldmund alias. Sparse, atmospheric piano with less of the electronic backing commonly found in Kenniff’s work as Helios. Click the cover to listen in Spotify.

Helios

In Greek mythology, Helios was the personification of the sun. Today however, Helios is the solo project of Keith Kenniff, a talented artist making music that’s simply beautiful.
